Why you shouldn’t put an AirTag on your pet?

Ana sayfa / Technology

As you know, the safety of our furry friends is always a top priority for pet owners. However, the recent trend of using Apple’s AirTag tracking device to monitor pets may not be the best idea. So, why shouldn’t you attach an AirTag to your pet?

AirTag Poses Health Risks for Animals!

Developed by Apple, the AirTag is a small tracking device designed for personal items, working through Bluetooth signals on Apple’s Find My network. Although intended for items like luggage, bags, and keys, pet owners have recently begun repurposing it for their pets.

Veterinary experts warn that using an AirTag on pets can pose significant health risks. Especially with dogs, there’s a risk of them chewing or swallowing the device. If the battery breaks down in the stomach, it can cause acid burns and severe internal damage, often requiring urgent surgery and costly operations.

Another reason AirTags are unsuitable for pet tracking is due to technical limitations. Unlike GPS trackers, AirTags only provide location data via nearby Apple devices. This makes tracking nearly impossible in rural areas or regions with few Apple devices. In short, using an AirTag for pet tracking is neither safe nor effective.

Although it might seem like a budget-friendly solution, using AirTags on pets carries serious risks. Due to both health concerns and technical limitations, pet owners should opt for safer, pet-specific solutions.
